Efthymia Sampsonidou (EFFI)

born 1977 in Nuremberg

(English version below)

In the first years in the art space studio, Efthymia Sampsonidou worked according to the same pattern: drawing circles and breaking them with vertical lines, colored by brush strokes with diluted acrylic paint on paper. In this way she created thousands of pictures over the years. This serial and ritual approach is still present in her artistic work, albeit with an expanded range of topics. The mixture of abstraction and figurative subjects initially appears unintentional. Looking more closely at the development of her work and looking at the recurrence and reproduction of her themes, it becomes clear that her results cannot arise by chance.

Sometimes the urge to paint is so strong that it doesn't matter to her what she paints on.

Her work can be found in numerous collections today. The new building of the vocational development center (bfw) in Bamberg was designed with her motifs in 2016. In 2019 her work was selected for the Outsider Art Fair in Paris and in 2023 for the OAF in New York.

Efthymia Sampsonidou (EFFI)

was born in 1977 in Nuremberg. During her first years at the KUNSTRAUM studio she used to work in an ongoing ritual-like pattern: drawn circles crossed by vertical lines, colored by brush-strips of thinned acrylic paint on paper. Thus she created thousands of images during the years. Even if her expression has gradually changed recently, the serial and ritual manner still appears in her artwork, now in an advanced variety. At first glance, the blend of abstract and figural subjects appears undesigned. At closer inspection of her work process and by a look on recurrence and reproduction of her subjects it becomes clear that her results will not come into existence by mere chance.

Sometimes her urge to paint pictures gets so strong, that it doesn't matter for her on what she's painting.

Today Effi's artwork is part of numerous collections. In 2016 the interior design of bfw-Building in Bamberg was based on her pattern. In 2019 her pictures were shown at Outsider Art Fair Paris and in 2023 at OAF in New York.
